I have been so grateful that Charles and Henry, and also Katherine and James, regularly join me in this community. In recent times, the cohort has ranged from 1 to 12, and I have had to be a bit selective about what I include in this blog. Charles and Katherine have been the center of my personal world for so long that I feel that the bulk of the blog is about them (as well as Henry and James, of course.) Since I have been both blessed and challenged by the topic, I decided to try something a bit different. I invite you to the the following conversation. Charles and Katherine are my co-contributors, and James and Henry will join us. The first person to be called to answer was I, so I will start with my answer. I was brought up in a family of five girls. Although the only boy in the family was younger than the girls, my older sisters introduced us to the males in the community. I always knew that, when I was grown up, I would not have a family. I saw that every family had a man. So, from a young age, I decided that I would have no family, and I would become a woman. The lack of male figures in my life may seem shocking, but it was actually the early 1990s, and back then I had no television, so I had no adult males in my life at all. Charles was a leading figure in my life. We had a relationship for almost 20 years before I met him. After our relationship ended, the two of us talked for hours. I had no family, no husband, no boyfriend, and no children. Charles became the man in my life. Because we talked together all the time, we became friends. In fact, we still are friends, and the three of us have talked for hours. I have now known Henry for a number of years, and I have never met anyone like him. He is so funny, and so interested in everything. I think that I am his favorite person in the world. I do not know who I would be without the love of Charles and Henry. They are my family.
